There was nothing extraordinary about her job title.
No special recognition.
No television interviews.
No awards hanging on the wall.
She was simply a healthcare worker doing her job.
Yet her impact on my life was extraordinary.
Every time I visited the clinic, she greeted me warmly.
She explained procedures patiently.
She answered questions respectfully.
She celebrated progress enthusiastically.
When I felt discouraged, she encouraged me.
When I felt afraid, she reassured me.
When I felt hopeless, she reminded me to keep going.
Medical treatment addresses illness. Human connection sustains people through it.
The healthcare worker may never know how much her kindness meant.
She may never realize the difference she made.
But I do.
Because during one of the most difficult seasons of my life, she helped me hold onto hope.
And sometimes hope is exactly what a patient needs most.
