The Beard, the Weight Gain, and the Shame: My PCOS Journey

When the hair on my chin first appeared, I thought it was a coincidence.

Then more appeared.

Soon, I was plucking every morning before leaving the house.

At the same time, my weight was increasing despite my efforts to eat well and exercise.

My periods became irregular.

Sometimes they disappeared for months.

I felt as though my body had betrayed me.

People assumed I was lazy.

Others suggested miracle weight-loss products.

Some told me to stop eating so much.

No one understood what was happening inside my body.

After numerous tests, I finally received a diagnosis.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Suddenly, everything made sense.

  • The hormonal imbalance.
  • The weight struggles.
  • The excessive hair growth.
  • The acne.
  • The irregular cycles.
  • The fear about future fertility.

What hurt most was not the condition itself.

It was the shame.

The constant feeling that I was somehow failing as a woman.

Today I know better.

PCOS is a medical condition, not a personal failure.

Millions of women live with it.

With proper support, treatment, and lifestyle adjustments, women with PCOS can thrive.

To every woman hiding behind filters, oversized clothing, or silent tears because of PCOS:

You are beautiful.

You are worthy.

And you are not alone.
