From Patient to Advocate

I never planned to become an advocate.

In fact, there was a time when I barely wanted to talk about my condition.

I wanted treatment. I wanted healing. I wanted my life back.

I certainly didn't want to tell strangers about my medical history.

But life had other plans.

As I recovered, people began asking questions.

They wanted to know what symptoms I experienced. How I found help. What treatment options were available.

At first, I answered quietly. One conversation at a time.

Then one woman told another. And another.

Soon, I realized how many women were suffering in silence.

Women who had never heard of certain conditions.

Women who thought their symptoms were normal.

Women who delayed treatment because of fear, stigma, or lack of information.

I saw myself in them. I remembered the confusion. The uncertainty. The loneliness.

And I knew I couldn't stay silent.

So I started speaking. At community gatherings. In churches. On social media. At health awareness events.

The more I shared, the more women came forward.

Every story reminded me why awareness matters. Every conversation reinforced the importance of advocacy.

Advocates are not born. They are often ordinary people who survive extraordinary challenges and decide to use their experiences to help others.

My diagnosis changed my life. But advocacy gave it new meaning.

Because somewhere, another woman is searching for answers. And she deserves to find them.
